The Playhouse Theatre

The Playhouse theatre is situated on Artillery Street in Derry City the City Culture and it was established in 1992.

Its construction was funded by a grant of just three hundred pound and since its establishment has won numerous prestigious awards for the design of the building.

The Theatre near Derry B & B has a seating capacity of 189 persons and has now become one of Northern Ireland’s leading awards winning multi-disciplinary Community Art Resource Centres.

The Playhouse has recently under gone refurbishment and has won a architectural award due to this. The playhouse offers a wide range of services readily available to the wider community of the City of Culture.

The playhouse has various spaces available such as the new auditorium and small workshop rooms that allow for it to be used for business hire for seminars or conferences, it can also be available for private hire.

The playhouse is situated right in the heart of the historic walled city alongside Derry Self Catered Accommodation.

Open College Network accredited courses

The Playhouse was the first Art Centre in Northern Ireland to gain Open College Network (OCN) accredited centre status in 1997

Each year the playhouse theatre help more than five hundred people achieve OCN qualifications in arts.

The training involved with the various courses emphasises a practical, hands on style of learning, and is suitable for all ages and those who have no qualifications to University graduates.

First Call Youth Theatre

The Young people involved will be working towards their Open College Network accreditation in Performance Skills at Level 3.

The workshops are free and available to young people aged 16 – 25 years all over Londonderry.

Youth Theatre Showcases

Members of The Playhouse’s First Call Theatre will be performing a showcase of their 3 months’ work.

The event is free and open to the public.
